FAQs
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial titanium dental root that is inserted into the bone jaw to replace the root of a non-existent tooth. Usually, the placement of an implant is the step prior to the placement of a prosthesis, that is, the visible part of the artificial tooth. This prosthesis is screwed into the implant to be properly attached.
There are many kinds of implants depending on the materials, shapes and qualities. Placing good quality implants and using good technique are key to success.
Is it a painful intervention?
The intervention is performed under the influence of local anesthesia and is therefore a completely painless procedure.
How should we expect the post-operative to be?
Post-operative and recovery is usually simple and painless. The patient may experience inflammation in the affected area for the next 7 or 10 days, during which time it is important to take the medication prescribed by the oral surgeon as well as follow their recommendations.
In addition, it is advisable that during the first hours the patient uses ice on the affected area to prevent inflammation, avoid intense sports, do not press the affected area with the tongue and do not smoke.
Will the dental implant last forever?
Many factors affect the durability of an implant and this makes the answer difficult.
Proper hygiene, maintenance and monitoring with periodic inspections help to prolong the life of the implants as much as possible.
Over time, implants can suffer from peri-implantitis, which is the partial loss of bone that holds the implant. At this point, it is essential to detect it in time in order to be able to fix it and prevent it from falling.
Thus, we can say that dental implants are a long-lasting and effective treatment, but that their useful life will depend on several factors.
What are the risk factors for an implant?
The main risk factors for which an implant can be lost are: Poor oral hygiene, having harmful habits such as smoking tobacco, suffering from malocclusion or bruxism, not complying with periodic follow-up reviews and other factors intrinsic to the patient’s own biology.
Will the dental implant change our lives in any bad way?
The answer is no. In general, the use of dental implants has no limitations in our lives and therefore we can lead a “normal” life.
You just have to be more careful with the hygiene of this area and avoid chewing hard foods with the prosthesis screwed to this implant.
Will I go toothless when they put an implant on me?
If the patient wishes, we can place a temporary tooth on the same day as the implant. This temporary tooth will perform an aesthetic function for 3 months, which is the time required for proper implant integration. After this time, we will replace it with the final tooth.

Super, they put me two implants at a time and it didn’t hurt me at all. Also very grateful for your concern during the following days with regular calls. Thanks!
My mother’s removable teeth was old and were falling out. We wanted to try a fixed denture and we couldn’t have made a better choice… In a few days she already had the implants in place and the new denture ready. She looks great on her and she eats normally again!
I had wanted to get implants for a long time but never was the time. Mine was a bit complicated case because I was missing bone but they fixed it without any problem. You notice that they are professionals and that gives confidence.
