What is an exodontic / dental extraction?
Exodontics is a dental treatment that involves the extraction of one or more dental pieces.
Depending on the dental piece and its degree of complexity, we will use more or less surgical techniques for its extraction.
When should a wisdom tooth be removed?
There are several reasons why the exodontia of a wisdom tooth may be prescriptive.
Among the main ones we find:
- They are affected by non-restorable caries or other diseases.
- They come out in the wrong position or orientation.
- They cause pain.
- This space will be needed for an orthodontic treatment
Is it a painful intervention?
The intervention is performed under the influence of local anesthesia and is therefore a completely painless procedure.
How should we expect the post-operative to be?
Post-operative and recovery will always depend on each case and patient.
In some cases it can be annoying and the patient may experience inflammation in the affected area for the next 7 or 10 days, during which time it is important to take the medication prescribed by the oral surgeon as well as follow his recommendations.
In addition, it is advisable that during the first hours the patient uses ice on the affected area to prevent inflammation, avoid spitting, intense sports, smoking and pressing the affected area with the tongue.
